Sustainability Storytelling Is Not Just Telling Stories About Sustainability

Interest in sharing stories about sustainability efforts is prevalent, from large corporations marketing products or services, universities showcasing findings and initiatives, to local nonprofits sharing best practices. This chapter discusses key arguments as to why stories are emerging as a key messaging tool to describe how humans are impacting and altering biomes. Incorporating sustainability competencies and systems thinking in story structure are done to empower an audience to adopt an action oriented approach to storytelling, focusing on the capacity or ability to act and sustain a desired behavior or state of being, and encourages the reader to consider how they would approach crafting the story of anthromes.
